Ok, I know this issue has been beat up in the forums. But I've got a major issue here..

Background.. I work for a hospital and many workstations are shared by many users. We use AS400 for an application.

Here is the scenario 1... A nurse signs into a workstation, gets a call to a room, jumps up and forgets to lock / sign off workstation. The workstation locks by GPO at 10 minute interval. The workstation locks. the user leaves for the day and forgets to logoff. The next user can't get into the workstation because switch user is turned off. Only recourse is to hold down the power button and reboot the workstation. which is bad for the drive and data..

If switch user is turned on.. The same scenario 1 plays out, but now the user "switches" user and begins working the system runs out of resources, low memory etc. The system could have as many as 20 users running in the background because they forget to logoff.. In addition the Applications they need to use won't run because the session ID is running under the other user. AS400 can't start the application because the AS400 will not allow duplicate session ID's running at the same time (which is still running under previous user). The nurses are not talented enough nor do I want them to, start task manager and log off the previous user in that method. So the routine is to switch and switch and switch, thus running out of the resource until someone reboots the workstation.

Possible solutions would be.. if it can be done..

1. Place a "logoff" previous user on the lock screen

2. Have system logoff (close) previous users when another user switches

3. Have a login script to logoff any previous user. logoff ID? Will the previous user always have session id of 1? then will current session be ID 2 ect..

4. A GPO that will force single user and log them off after a specified time idle.

Don't really care about previous user losing data.. just tired of the calls to unlock workstations and also having users cold brick the machines... The XP way was so great...
