I wasnt sure where to ask this question, but Windows 10 is as good as place as any. I have been charged with writing process and procedure documentation around how we roll out Windows 10 to the users. So i have started fresh with a new blank Word document and started typing what i think our process looks like.

For example, here are the first seven steps:

  1. Verify if current computer specifications match requested computer specifications
    1. If not, can we order additional parts to meet requested specs.
      1. If yes, order parts from vendor
      2. If no, go to “buy new computer”
    2. If yes, continue with process
  2. Verify that any existing data on the used computer was previously saved (if needed) NOTE: This is part of several processes, including termination, computer replacement, etc.
  3. Run a secure erase/disk wipe utility to remove the existing operating system, data, etc.
    1. If newer model, we can run HP Secure Erase which is part of the system BIOS
    2. If older mode, we can run a disk wipe utility on the Linux Live CD (this is also used before getting rid of old equipment)
  4. Update any firmware/BIOS
  5. Configure BIOS Settings (e.g. WAN to LAN Auto-switch)
  6. Install the operating system.
  7. Activate OS and/or verify activation (this happens automatically if we use the install with the custom product key embedded in it).

Does Microsoft provide any templates for writing this kind of stuff? Anything i could adopt and take a copy of and then customize as needed? I ask because a lot of the processes are pretty common to everyone, not just our company. So i hate reinventing the wheel, especially when i'm not that great a writer. Any ideas/suggestions?
