I update MSE in my Windows 7 Professional system via Windows Update; I let WU install the updates automatically. The latest pattern definition was updated this morning 06/18 06:48 (1.295.942.0). The MSE icon in the system tray is brown, not green. When I open the MSE window it tells me
Definitions created on: 06/10/2019 at 1:43 AM
Definitions last updated: 06/10;2019 at 4:26 AM
Virus definition version: 1.295.429.0
Spyware definition version: 1.295.429.0
I then click the "Update" button, and the "Downloading..." bar turns from all gray to green slowly. After more than 35 minutes of downloading, the process stops and says, "Connection failed. The virus and spyware definitions didn't update on 6/18/2019, 10:52AM because of an Internet or network connectivity problem." I have no idea what IP address this downloading process was trying to access, as I did not run a Wireshark trace. As far as I know, I have no problems connecting to the Internet.
Why does the MSE window not know that I have updated the patterns via Windows Update? And why is the MSE window unable to update the pattern definitions? Thanks,
