Windows 10 vhdx cannot be mounted / msconfig stays in Selective startup

Hi, after moving my windows system from a vhdx to physical ssd (because the upgrade to 1903 messed up everything), msconfig is stuck in Selective Startup. I tried to switch to normal from safe mode, too. didn't help. I already used bcdboot to create a clean bcd entry, but that didn't help either.

my service configuration seems ok (I compared with a list from Restoring Default Services in Windows 10 Technical Preview | MyWindowsHub )

the real problem I have is that VHDX files cannot be mounted anymore.

  • Error message: Couldn't mount file - Sorry, there was a problem mounting the file.
  • and with diskpart: diskpart encounterend an error: An internal error occurred.

with an entry in the Event Viewer (that doesn't reproduce):

  • Source: VDS Basic Provider, EventID 1, Message: "Unexpected Failure: Error code:1B1@01010013"

My thinking was that maybe because of the msconfig settings a windows component required to mount vhdx is not activated.

any help is greatly appreciated. luckily i have the VHDX content backed up, but i'm working with SUBSTed unencrypted folders right now instead of having a BitLockered VHDX.

thanks,

Alex
