Hello!

I have a strange problem. A client decided to use some old Western Digital BU software on a USB BU drive to backup some files on a local HDD in Windows 10.

During this process the WD Software created about 2,000 empty sub folders (folder inside folder/recursive folders) in a directory with the final folder having all the backed up files (6,000 items). It put the directory (with the 2000 folders) inside the OneDrive directory.

Now OneDrive is stuck in its sync operation trying to upload the directory to the cloud.

To make matters worse, you cannot scroll through the 2,000 folders to delete the last folder with the actual files to delete because Windows Explorer crashes (out of page space I assume).

If you exit OneDrive and turn off Internet connectivity and try to delete the offending directory in Windows Explorer, it crashes again.

I have tried going in with windows command prompt (admin) and issuing del and rmdir commands with the message unable to delete/remove directory, file is being used by another process (maybe hidden OneDrive process or Windows File Explorer, the Anti-V is disabled.)

Unable to uninstall OneDrive with the the offending directory in place. If OneDrive is impacting the directory deletion with some background process/service I can't tell.

I am out of ideas. Would prefer not to reload laptop.

Is there a CMD or Powershell method I am missing?

TIA
