I recently purchased the following brand new components from a reputable computer reseller:

  • Intel Core i7-9700K 3.6Ghz 9th Gen CPU
  • Gigabyte B360M AORUS Gaming 3 Intel 8th Gen Motherboard
  • Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 GAMING OC 8G Graphics Card
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR4 3000MHz Desktop RAM - Black
  • 250GB WD Black SN750 NVMe M.2 SSD
  • Thermaltake Level 20 MT ARGB Mid Tower Chassis Case
  • Thermaltake 650W Smart Pro RGB Fully Modular 80+ Bronze Power Supply
  • Noctua NH-U14S CPU Cooler

IMO- all good quality components which should run Windows 10 easily. So, I installed the OS using the MS Media Creator tool, created a bootable USB and successfully installed Windows 10. The computer then went off and powered back on again all of a sudden while sitting in the new Windows OS.

I left it at the logon screen and the computer reset again. It again reset when it rebooted to the logon screen. On the next boot, it was at the logon screen for about 5 minutes when it rebooted itself. Whenever I log in, no matter what, the computer resets.

I checked the event logs and all I found was events relating to the previous shutdown being sudden and unexpected. No Windows Dump files were created.

I checked the option to create OS Dump files- it was set OK. I turned Windows Updates off. I set power options to always ON.

No matter what I changed, the OS would reset like someone had pulled the power plug. In some cases it happened twice within 2 minutes and in other cases it happens twice in 10 minutes- but it always happens. This is with a generic/virgin Windows 10 Professional OS freshly installed with no drivers and no updates. Even with the latest drivers from the motherboard DVD and graphics card DVD, the OS would reboot itself.

I rebooted into Safe Mode and it does NOT reboot and is stable.

I rebooted into Ubuntu from a USB and it does NOT reboot and is stable.

I installed Windows 8.1 from USB and it does NOT reboot and is stable. It's been running on Windows 8.1 now for 24 hours with no issues. Interestingly, Windows 10 loads its own drivers for the new hardware without the need for external disks but with Win8.1 I had to install the motherboard drivers and graphics card drivers before they worked correctly.
