Hello,

I am trying to setup a Windows 10 Enterprise local policy to prevent all searching from being done for a local user on a stand alone computer. Below are the policies (for the specific user), services and registry settings entered in the system

All the search is disabled except for taskbar search. I hide it by right clicking the taskbar, clicking search and select hidden. This only hides the search in the taskbar but not searching the computer. When I click the start button and start typing, it still performs a search. I can type explorer and it still comes up and I can click it to run it.

Anybody know how to disable searching completely?

  • User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\Personalization
    • Set Enable screen server as Disabled
    • Set Password protect the screen as Not Configured
  • User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar
    • Set Remove All Programs list from the Start Menu as Enabled and set the action Remove and disable setting
    • Set Remove Search link from Start Menu as Enabled
    • Set Remove Search Computer link as Enabled
    • Set Remove Run Menu from Start Menu as Enabled
    • Set Remove Favorites menu from Start Menu as Enabled
    • Set Remove common program groups from Start Menu as Enabled
    • Set Remove See More Results/Search Everywhere link as Enabled
    • Set Do not search internet as Enabled
    • Set Do not use the search-based method when resolving shell shortcuts as Enabled
    • Set Do not search for files as Enabled
    • Set do not search communications as Enabled
  • User Configuration\Administrative Templates\AllSettings
    • Set Prohibit access to Control Panel and Settings as Enabled
  • User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Ctrl+Alt+Del Option
    • Set Remove Task Manager setting as Enabled

The following Services were Stopped and set as Disabled:

  • Windows Update
  • Windows Search

The LUA was disabled in the registry

  • In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Policies\System
    • set EnableLUA = 0
