Have a full PC backup using "Backup and Restore (Windows 7)" found in Windows 10 Control Panel including a system image.

How did I get to this sorry predicament?

Have Acer Laptop VN7-591G with Windows 10 Pro 64 bit

Late August 2019: Windows Update 1903 would not install.

Windows Level 1 support agent in India did remote session, tried to get update to work, deleted some files, was unsuccessful.

Said she would refer my Service Request #: 1481355501 to level 2 support, who would call back.

After her session, Windows would not start at all.

Level 2 support called, unable to resurrect Windows, let alone deal with original 1903 update issue, which was by now moot. Referred me to the local Microsoft store.

Visited Microsft store several times, they were unable to resurrect Windows. Case/confirmation numbers: CAS-3102211-K8F1C0, CASH-3101908-S7P8V1, QIRYNXG-0028, CAS-3097197-R8J3L9, XTXONSL-0028. Store staff said only solution was to wipe hard drives and do a clean install of Windows 10. Said I could recover files from my backups.

Staff totally unfamiliar with “Windows Backup and Restore (Windows 7)” in Windows 10 Control Panel, that I do every week.

After new Windows 10 install, restored all files etc. but unable to restore BCM database. Found .LDF and .MDF files in backup, which I understand are the main data files for BCM, but unable to restore or connect to them.

Do not have a specific BCM backup, was relying on the full laptop backup. What is the use of a Windows full system backup if you have to do all manner of individual backups of various components also???

Microsoft Store personnel promised to research and revert, they also not familiar with BCM, but never called back. Checked with them again, each time said they would research and revert but never called back.

Called Windows support again and was eventually, after telling the story a half dozen times and being shuffled from one agent to another, referred to an Office support agent in the Philippines. SRX1482712457ID case opened.

Several calls with Office Support in Philippines including (remote access sessions) over several days. Agent clearly not familiar with BCM databases, does research and then calls back a day or two later to try something. Eventually gives up and refers me to Communities or back to the Microsoft Store.

Help!

I need to restore “Accounts” in BCM from my .LDF and .MDF files or any other files that would have been captured in my “Windows Backup and Restore (Windows 7)” in Windows 10 Control Panel backup.

While better than most at things Tech, I am not a computer professional and need appropriate advice a non-expert can implement. What a nightmare, and really pitiful support from Microsoft. Hope someone knowledgeable from Microsoft is monitoring and can help address this matter.
