Storage Server 2003 Rebuild

Hi All,

We have an HP Fileserver w/ Storage Server 2003 on it. It is attached to an
EMC AX150 SAN. There are numerious issues with the server so I have to
rebuild it.

So I have to rebuild the server this weekend. My question is are there any
utilities to help preserve the shares, permissions, etc? The data itself wil
remain intact (on the SAN), but after the server is up after the rebuild I'd
like to avoid having to manually recreate all those shares.

Hello,

permissions are inside the ntfs. That wouldn't be an issue.

About the shares:
Saving and restoring existing Windows shares
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/125996/en-us

You should analyse what's going on bad before rebuilding it, to not make
again the same troubles

Thank you for your reply.

I agree on finding out the cause of the issue. The unfortunately the vendor
won't escalate the issue further until we do a rebuild.

Maybe someone here has some insight:

After a day or two of running the server starts failing with 2 symptoms:
1. When I try to connect via remote desktop it fails without ever prompting
for a logon or giving an error. It just flashes for a second and goes back to
the connect>cancel> help> Options screen.

2. Users start getting errors when they try to access large files (over
100MB) is says that there are not enough resources to complete the request.

Can you provide more details ?
-Service pack level
-eventlog errors
-antivirus/defrag software
-how much ram
-do you do backup at night ?
-do you have graph on memory/cpu ?

-Windows Storage Server 2003- SP2
-There are no event log errors that seem to be consistent with the problem.
- Symantec AV 9.X
-4GB Ram
-Symantec Backup Exec (on another server) backing up nightly (differential)
and on weekend (full).
-The graphs were looked at by the vendor's software team and supposedly
didn't show anything.
