I am involved in a sad story.
My friend D is an unsophisticated user of Windows 10. Her file design is the ‘modern’ everything on Drive C. Drive C contained many years of data pertaining to her business.
She was struck with ransomware which disabled her PC.
For years she has been helped by friend X. She asked X for help in dealing with the ransomware.
X determined that the only way to clear the ransomware was to reinstall the system. Without preserving any of the data files X reinstalled Win 10. I assume that as part of the reinstall X did quick format of the C drive. An inspection of the system with File Manager displays no data files.
I am not a Windows guru. So before I help D in rebuilding her system I want to determine that there is no way to retrieve the files lost with the installation of Win 10. Is there at the hardware level any way to recover any of the data files?
