Windows 10 Windows 10 Upgrade Shuts Down Remote Desktop

So that I can keep my laptop OS supported by Microsoft, I am attempting to upgrade my Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10. In two separate attempts, after installing Windows 10 and closing the laptop lid, the remote desktop on VNC connected computers lock up and fail to operate. Windows 7 did not do this. All options for close lid, sleep, etc. are set to Do Nothing. I had HP and Microsoft reps look at this and could not figure out why it acted this way in Windows 10.

Please let me know how to fix this so I can continue to use my laptop with Microsoft Windows 10 support in the future.
