Just reloading a 4year old Dell laptop I was given. Fresh Windows 7 load. I don't have the bitlocker PIN or PW. I wanted to decrypt the drive so that bitlocker is completely disabled. Went into the Control panel>manage bitlocker and started decryption process. So far so good. Then the computer went into hibernation. Go into the panel now, and it says 'Decryption paused'. No active buttons or links visible to allow it to resume.

So, I go into elevated CMD, type 'manage-bde -status'. It tells me:

Conversion status: Decryption paused

Percentage Encrypted: 13%

Encryption method: AES256 with diffuser

Protection status: Protection off

Lock status: Unlocked

Identification field: None

Key protectors:

Numerical password

TPM and PIN

Ok, so now I try 'manage-bde -resume c:'

It now says Decryption now in progress. Woohoo!!!

But it is lying...

Half an hour later the status is still the same - says Decryption paused at 13%. The Windows 'control panel/manage bitlocker' still show decryption paused. I've tried restarting, and repeating, no luck.

Help! Anyone any ideas on how I can restart the decryption process?

The thing that worries is me is that sometime back (on another computer) I had an issue due to some update event that tinkered with the BIOS, which then triggered the inactive bitlocker to engage (I hadn't decrypted the drive, just suspended bitlocker). Luckily, for that computer I had the PIN. (I then decrypted it to prevent this happening again). But if that happens on this one, I'm screwed, hence my desire to decrypt it before I start using it. I'm only doing this to give me a spare computer for my kids to play with, its a fresh build, so if necessary, I guess I could completely reload without too much hassle, but hope it doesn't come to that...
