I updated my Windows 7 to W10 Pro 64 bit. I was on a HP desktop and used Norton for virus and malware protection when on W7. I downloaded the free version of W10 Pro 64 bit from the Internet. I checked the virus and malware protection on W10 and it indicated that it was being handled by "my organization". I am not an organization and can not find a way to turn on Windows Defender despite two W10 manuals and Cortana; one of the manuals is written by Microsoft. I assume I purchased old versions of both manuals.

I have found out that W10 is very complexed with hidden options which makes it very difficult to manage. The sources I have read do not reflect what the manuals indicate, so I assume the manuals are not current. How do I turn on Windows Defender or is it better to purchase a Norton product or similar package? Secondary, can you suggest a good manual to purchase that provides simple and direct answers to the many questions people have on W10?

Reading various comments on the Internet, I have discovered I am not the only person who is totally confused with W10 verses W7. I went to W10 due to the upcoming support being discontinued by Microsoft and software suppliers. I appreciate your assistance as I have had it!

Regards,

John
