I've been running Adobe's pdf reader for years. Recently, when I try to launch the reader, either from a shortcut or by right-click a pdf in File Explorer and choosing OPEN, the reader does not come up. No error message. I've tried to get help on the Adobe forum and from Adobe support with no answer. I uninstalled the product and re-installed from an Adobe website and it still will not launch. I ran a full scan of my system hard drive with Malwarebytes, which detected no virus, PUPs, or PUMs. So, here I am.
I didn't run Windows Defender, because it seems to not be present on my system. Does it need to be downloaded?
As I was submitting this question, one of the drop-downs listed "Microsoft Security Essential." Now I remember that it's the new name for what used to be Defender. I'll have a look at that.
Does anyone have any (other) suggestion?
