Tried to configure Set a default associations configuration file located in Computer\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\File Explorer as described below.
Windows 10 – How to configure file associations for IT Pros?
Fails for both 1803 and 1903. Although The GPO applies successfully.
The registry points to the correct location: HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\System\DefaultAssociationsConfiguration
\\server\netlogon\defaultapps\app_import.xml.
Supposedly it applies after logon but only for new user profiles. Existing user profiles are not affected.
Anyone have a workaround for this? I tried converting to 'txt' but does not apply either.
On a related note, also unsuccessfully tried the adm option to force outlook as mail app but probably not supported for Windows 10:
