Windows 10 Access Work or School

What does the "Access Work or School" setting (under Accounts) do? I notice that when a computer joins an Active Directory domain, that the domain shows up here. What does signing into a Microsoft/Office 365 account do? It's not the same as joining a domain? But when i sign into a Microsoft/Office 365 account, it shows up in the list and i get a message that things are being changed/modified to accommodate this. What changed? How can i tell what signing into a 365 account did to a computer?
