I have a keyboard with dedicated volume controls. However, changing the volume does not affect the default sound device (HDMI-Output). Instead, it affects the volume for a different sound device that is also connected (USB Sound card).
If I disable all sound devices except the HDMI-Output, the volume controls work fine. However, I obviously do not want to disable the other devices every time I want to switch.
How does Windows determine which audio device the hardware controls should affect? Can I change this anywhere (e.g. in the registry)?
There is a 2-year-old post here regarding Windows 7, which no useful answers: Volume buttons control the wrong device.
