Dumb question time! How to "hide" machine on network

I was wondering if it was possible to keep a server or NAS device on the
network and in the domain, and have it NOT visible to end users when they
browse My Network Places.

Hello,

hidding a nas may be hard, as netbios is required to map network share...

Instead, you prevent users from browsing the network place at all.

You sould not consider this as a security mesure. Any few experienced
hackers will find it much easily...

Why do you want to hide it ? protect from listing available share ?

A quick and easy way to do this on a windows server is to add a "$" to the
share name... like "sharedfolder$"

There are also reghacks to hide systems from the network when browsing.

What about using Access Based Enumeration? Experts?

This is a tool to prevent the visibility to folders that one doesn't have
access to.

My guess is it only hides the shared folders and not the machine itself?
