Good morning all,

I have a strange issue with windows 10 professional (v. 10.0.18363.752, latest stable release as of today, with all updates).

Main drive is a sandisk ssd 256GB (C:\).

An additional drive is connected to a sata port (WD Green 6TB drive, D:\).

In D:\ I have a file at the following path: D:\HD_DANIELE\LAVORO\CI_CF_Patente\CI_CF_Daniele.pdf

In the same folder I have another file at the following path: D:\HD_DANIELE\LAVORO\CI_CF_Patente\Patente.pdf

I want to copy D:\HD_DANIELE\LAVORO\CI_CF_Patente\CI_CF_Daniele.pdf to C:\Users\Ten\Desktop\CI_CF_Daniele.pdf

When I try to copy the file to C:\ (drag and drop, or right mouse button menu) I have the following error:

"Filename not valid or too long"

If I try to copy that file from a cmd (With user "Ten" permissions) I have the following error:

The file name, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect.

0 files copied.

I also tried to give the command from cmd with administrative privileges, however I have the same error:

The file name, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect.

0 files copied.

I also tried the xcopy command, but I have the following error:

File creation error - The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

File at the following path: D:\HD_DANIELE\LAVORO\CI_CF_Patente\Patente.pdf can be copied without any problems.

File D:\HD_DANIELE\LAVORO\CI_CF_Patente\CI_CF_Daniele.pdf can be opened without problems, it can be renamed, it can be deleted and it can be compressed, issues are that it cannot be copied and it cannot be moved (cut).

I tried also to rename CI_CF_Daniele.pdf to Patente.pdf (with the same filename which doesn't have the issue), but I have the same errors.

If I directly open CI_CF_Daniele.pdf and save in the same folder with a different filename, then I can copy or move that new file; the same happens if I zip the problematic file and copy/move the zip.

I also run chkdsk /r on D:\ but I have no bad sectors, smart status of D:\ is also ok.

I tried to compare permissions of the problematic file (CI_CF_Daniele.pdf) and the not problematic file (Patente.pdf), but I cannot see any issue.

Permissions of D:\ were also resetted with the following command:

icacls D:\ /reset /t /c /l

The issue could be related to Samba transfers, but I'm not sure: that files had been copied over samba (at different times and probably with different versions of Samba), from a Mac OS virtual machine running on a linux host system, with that D:\ drive shared inside the virtual machine.

I am really at a dead end now and I have no more ideas, any help or suggestion will be much appreciated.

Thank you
