Windows Mobile 6 TS Idle Timeout Issue

I am running several sites that use PDAs for a Point of Sale Application.

That said I am using a WM6 RDP client to connect to a Windows 2003 Server TS
Server.

Although I have:

1. Set Idle Session Limits to the Maximum (Never) through the Group Policy
Editor
2. Disabled Screen Savers through the Group Policy Editor
3. Enabled KeepAliveEnable in the Registry
4. Set the KeepAliveInterval to 1000 in the Registry
5. Set the KeepAliveTime to 7200000 in the Registry

The clients still disconnect after 10 minutes (or sooner) of idletime.

If the user is using the handheld "terminal" consistently everything is
fine, however if left idle the RDP client disconnects.

I need the RDP client to stay "permanently" connected to the TS Server...
this is the ideal situation.

I've been looking for a solution for sometime any advice would be appreciated.

I just logged into the 2 of the sites using the previously mentioned
application and I have confirmed the session disconnects at exactly the 10
minute point of idle time.

Have you verified hat the GPO is actually applied, with resultant
set of policies (RSoP)?
Does this also happen when you connect to the TS from a XP client?

How would I confirm the GPO is applied?

I will test with an XP client and reply

When logged in via Remote Desktop from a local XP box the issue does NOT
exist... When at 19 minutes of idle time the session did NOT disconnect.

So I guess I am to assume it is on the client side... any suggestions?

Which models BTW? We're looking at mobile communications at having access to
Citrix would be the icing on the cake.

Have used a couple:

Dell Axim X51 (no longer available)
Widefly WF28 - nice machine (but small). Can be totally locked down so user
can only access TS. Also, makes it less attractive to thieves....
For higher screen resolution fujitsu Siemens Look N560 is a 640*480 device
and I believe that it can be got in a "ruggedised" form.

I think 640x480 would be our minimum. HTC do a few nice models - I've got
the S710 Smartphone which can't Citrix due to no stylus. They have a couple
of more PDA like that are still phones. Expanding screen is what we need ;-)

Hi,

HTC do not do any VGA models (yet) - they do do a micro computer which runs
on WM6 but has a much larger display. I also have a Toshiba G900 (800 * 480)
and installed Remote Desktop onto it. Works well over 3G network - use it to
support customer sites when I am out of the office.

Other VGA models include the ETEN X800 (just released), Imate have a few
coming out but I know nothing about them. If you go to www.pdadb.net and
under pda master enter minimum screen resolution as 480 * 480 you will get
all the VGA and above devices. Note RDP will only work on WM6 professional
edition.

You can also try ZCRemote from ZCSoftware - this works great and allows you
to access a pc/server at higher than the pda screen resolution - It has
screen scaling so it will squash a 1280*1024 screen into a 640*480 screen and
you can then zoom into the piece you want. Also it charges only per handheld
and not per server so you can have as many servers running as you wish
(server being PC with the ZCServer software.) Not sure if this is what you
mean by expanding screen.

I was thinking of some magic hardware rolling/folding affair that manages to
fit a 800x600 screen into a form factor as big as a phone :-)
