Avast and Windows 10 update on Surface 4

I have a Surface Pro 4 laptop, which was working perfectly until the latest Windows update in May 2020. After that, it was not a happy bunny - very slow, constantly crashing and refusing to start. As nobody else was reporting this, I figured either the computer was about to die, or there was some software clash that the update had uncovered. I had Avast Antivirus, Windows Defender and Malwarebytes all running, and after a lot of reading, I started to wonder if Avast was causing the problem by conflicting with the new version of Windows Defender. I uninstalled Avast, cleaned up the computer, and (fingers very tightly crossed!), everything seems to be back to normal. Surface is waking up as it should (the other thing I did was change from Sleep to Hibernate), and it's fast and responsive as it used to be. Too early to be sure this has solved the problem, but I wanted to ask if a clash between Avast and the latest version of Windows Defender was possible?
