On a newly installed and updated Windows 10 Pro. 2004 x64 I noticed a problem with Start Menu tiles when users are using roaming user profiles.
I tested this with a newly created Windows Domain user account. After the user signs in to Windows 10 for the first time, the Start Menu shows 3 tiles as follows (figure 1):
Afterwards the user adds some more tiles on the Start Menu in the default Productivity group (figure 2) and signs out while connected to the Windows Domain network so that the user profile is copied to the network share.
After that the following behavior can be observed:
- If the user signs in to Windows 10 while the PC is connected to the Windows Domain network, the Start Menu shows all tiles as on figure 2.
- But if the user signs in to Windows 10 while the PC is disconnected from the Windows Domain network, the Start Menu shows only the default tiles as on figure 1.
The behavior depends only on the connectivity to the Windows Domain network during the sign-in. If the PC connection to the Windows Domain is changed while the user is signed in to Windows, the Start Menu tiles do not change.
I do not understand why some tiles disappear from the Start Menu when the user signs in while the PC is disconnected from the Windows Domain network - in that case the complete user profile is still present on the PC (in C:\Users\username), both the local part and roaming part of the profile.
I was also able to reproduce the problem on Windows 10 Pro. 1903 x64.
I would need help to solve the issue which annoys our users.
