A friend told me that they had picked up a virus from a website we were both using a few weeks ago, so I should do a scan to check for any viruses. When I looked for the Virus and Threat Protection setting, it was missing from its usual location, therefore I couldn't do a scan as I normally would. I installed Avast security software to see if that would work, I was able to scan for malware and viruses with that and the previously missing Virus and Threat protection setting returned once more, I also did a scan using that, both resulted by saying there was no malware/viruses to worry about. I then deleted Avast using its uninstall program as it was no longer required. The Virus and Threat Protection setting disappeared once more, when I search for it and click on it, the error message "Your IT administrator has limited access to some areas of this app, and the item you tried to access is not available". Has this problem been caused by a virus and is there a solution which would allow me to use Windows Defender once more rather than a third party application?
