Morning, all! Trying to create user desktop shortcut (to a UNC share) to all user's desktops with GPO. I'm a domain admin and I've also tried logging in with standard user, no go (will not create shortcut, no related errors in Event Viewer).
Machines are in a specific OU, and I've tried BOTH creating a shortcut in UserConfig/Preferences/WindowsSettings/Shortcuts in the default domain policy, and creating a brand new policy under the specific OU that the machines are in (same above policy path).
Target Type = "File system object", Location = "Desktop" (also tried specific path with "%userprofile%\Desktop"), Start In = "%userprofile%\Desktop", Action = Create (also tried Update), and YES, the permissions set on the Common tab is set for "Run in logged-on user's security context".
Numerous blogs have had some variants in the above settings; I've tried them all and nothing is working (including with my login as local & domain admin). Suggestions?
No, I don't want to build a .VBS script or put together a network share and redirect blah blah blah... This simple shortcut method should work fine. I've done multiple "gpupdate /force" on both the domain controller I'm editing the GPO on as well as the workstation I'm using. Also rebooted the workstation multiple times.
Thanks.
Steve
