Explorer closing when trying to attach files to gmail

Hi,

I have looked every where and can't seem to find a solution to this problem. Every time I attempt to upload an attachment to my Gmail account the internet explorer page comes up with a message saying it has encountered an error and needs to close. I bought the computer new this year and it came with windows 8 already installed. The same thing happens if I log into my Hotmail account and try to upload there. I can send and receive emails without attachments and download attachments off emails I have received. If anyone can help fix it would be greatly appreciated.

More than likely the problem is with Internet Explorer. Websites use complex html, css and js that IE can't handle. Download and install Microsoft Edge.
