Yesterday when I clicked on News on MS Edge screen, a pop-up warning with loud announcement that my WIN 10 computer (bought less than 2 yrs ago) has suspicious virus and I should not shut down or do anything other than call the 1(888) number for assistance. The pop-up had real Microsoft banner. Once I called the 1(888) number, a lady answered and said her name is Cecilia. She asked me to give control of my computer to her so she may help to fix the virus threat problem. She said the computer network IP had been hacked, and showed me 16 hacking connections were made. She then removed the connections and the 499 virus files. Then she installed Malware and CCleaner apps on my computer. Today she said she'll finish with getting rid of the rest of virus.
Unfortunately, once she got on she got rid of the warning pop-up (with the toll number to call for assistance) so I don't have that toll free number. Then she said she's in WA state but not on Microsoft campus. Instead, she gave a contact number of (425) 409-2390. Right now, I'm feeling nervous if Cecilia may not be a real Microsoft tech support staff. Could someone confirm this for me? So that I won't continue to let her work on my computer this afternoon at 2 o'clock. I'm very afraid that I might've been scammed. Thanks very much for anyone who can help!
