Hi,

I have a problem of randomly getting Stop errors on my Win2003 machine.
The event log shows the reason code to be "0x805000f"
I found that this might be caused by the bug of NTFS driver (KB article
#937455) and that hotfix is available.

My question is: how could I get this hotfix that will hopefully solve my
problem ?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Stop error hotfix download

Hi Anton,

You will need to contact Microsoft for it.
http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support
If they determine that this is the correct hotfix for your issue you will
not be charged.

Re: Stop error hotfix download

Is there a place to download the hotfix and try myself if that solves the
problem ?
This is the case with many of the fixes, why not this one ?

The problem actually is the following:
When harddrive is used intensively, Win2003 randomly restarts and shows
"0x805000f" as a reason code. The article #937455 confirms this to be a
Win2003 bug related to NTFS driver (which corresponds to the source of my
problem).

Of course I don't know if that's a correct hotfix for the problem, but
having hotfix file, I can at least try it and, if it does not work, move to
the next possible cause.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Stop error hotfix download

This hotfix is only available by calling Microsoft because it has not yet
undergone complete testing, and so their support team must decide on a
system by system basis who can safely install it.

This stop code appears to be hardware and driver related so i would perform
a checkdsk as well as run a diagnostic test on your server hardware (some
manufacturers offer diagnostic utilities for this) examine if any new
drivers were installed before your error occurred. I would even try to
update your drivers if possible. Are there any other related errors in your
event log?

Re: Stop error hotfix download

Coraleigh,

In event log it just reports inproper shutdown when I have to restart the
server. That also includes error code. No other log entries about the issue
are present.

The program randomly freezes along with the server. (If autorestart in on,
it restarts due to some critical error apparently).

The problem pretty much started when I installed Win2003 and started running
harddrive and CPU-intensive processes. It can sit idle for days, but can
randomly crash if the processes start. The processes themselves can't cause
the problem since they work on other machines perfectly well, and Windows
would give more error details if they were to be the problem.

Re: Stop error hotfix download

Disable your auto reboot so that you can see the actual Stop error code
message, as this will give us more specific info.
I still think you should perform a checkdsk as well as hardware scan.. there
could be a bad sector on the drive or a flaky hardware component which is
reacting to the high load.
Or.. you could call Microsoft for that hotfix. :-)

Thanks.

So, if I call, I get charged >$200 immideately, which will only be waived if

Re: Stop error hotfix download

They wont charge you for the hotfix regardless if it fixes your issue or
not. What they would charge you for is if you request troubleshooting above
and beyond the hotfix. They wont even ask for your credit card number unless
you explicitly tell them, this hotfix didnt work please help me fix my
problem.
