ntbackup.exe "unable to locate component" videoprt.sys

Hi!

Win server 2003 (cluster):
the ntbackup.exe won't start at all. Message:
"Unable to locate component - The application has failed to start because
VIDEOPRT.SYS was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this
problem"

Both ntbackup.exe and videoprt.sys is located in the correct folder.
Isn't videoprt.sys somehow critical for the display/system and cannot just
be copied into the folder? Error with bluescreen can accur if videoprt.sys
isn't working, or am i wrong?

Any suggestions what might be the problem?

Hello,
you can force a check on system files:
sfc /scannow

What is the version and size of your VIDEOPRT.SYS ?
What is your service pack level ?

Not the latest patch has been made. It will be done.
BUT this clustered machine has exactly the same systemconfiguration, both
hardware and system as it's "sister".
The other cluster-machines' ntbackup function is ok.
ntbackup.exe was run in june and went through successfully, but something
has happened thereafter.

I am thinking that videoprt.sys has been corrupted and since I find reports
searching on the Internet about videoprt.sys; reports telling about missing
file (videoprt.sys) during boot with blue screen as a result, maybe I just
cannot update/copy the file into it's place and replace the possible corrupt
one.
Or maybe I can?
I do not know what videoprt.sys does exactly. Would like to know...

I'm also thinking that maybe it has something to do with the display of the
window (that contains the graphical side of ntbackup.exe), the way it
somewhere in the registry follows the path to open the windows, which somehow
use videoprt.sys.

did you force the scan as i mentioned on my previous post ?
since it's a cluster, you can compare them with syscompare from MS that is
for cluster.

I don't know where i got it (pss suport maybe) if you don't have it i will
send it to you!
