Google has officially acquired Nest, a home-automation company most famous for their automated thermostats. Interestingly enough, Nest was founded by ex-members of the original iPod team, and their products are even sold at Apple Stores around the country. Google says that Nest will run fairly independently of Google, just like Motorola – which means that both iOS and Android users will continue to access their thermostats from their mobile devices.
From Larry Page, CEO of Google: “Nest’s founders, Tony Fadell and Matt Rogers, have built a tremendous team that we are excited to welcome into the Google family. They’re already delivering amazing products you can buy right now–thermostats that save energy and smoke/CO alarms that can help keep your family safe. We are excited to bring great experiences to more homes in more countries and fulfill their dreams!”
