When Vivo officially announced their new Vivo Xplay 3S smartphone back in December, they were hoping to lay claim to the first smartphone to hit the market with a 2K display. That official announcement followed several leaks in November, like one showing the device’s screen in action. Unfortunately, producing prototypes that help demonstrate a new technology is different from mass production for consumers, a situation that Vivo has been dealing with much to their chagrin.
After missing a January 15th sale data, which was already a reschedule of a December 12th launch date, Vivo pushed availability of the Xplay 3S out to February 12th. Obviously that day has come and gone with no units available for order. Vivo has now issued a statement to distributors letting them know they anticipate the device will be available in late February. They have at least learned to not tie a specific date to their message.
Vivo did not give a reason for this latest delay, but considering the 2K display is the only bit of new technology relative to the market, that seems to be the likely culprit. If Vivo isn’t careful, they may find some other vendor is able to get a 2K display equipped device in the hands of consumers before the Xplay 3S is available.
