Apple might have started the smartphone display resolution war when it debuted the iPhone 4 back in 2010, but the company really hasn't fired any new shots since then. Of course, Apple did carry the battle over to tablets with the third-generation iPad and to laptops with the Retina MacBook, but the Retina display on Apple's seventh-generation iPhone 5s features the same pixel density as it did on the fourth-generation iPhone 4. Meanwhile, Android smartphone makers have managed to continually pack more and more pixels into their panels, and Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S5 smartphone will apparently be the king of them all when it debuts next week.
