MediaTek has announced a new motto, Everyday Genius, to serve as their new branding motif. To help highlight this new marketing direction, MediaTek took the opportunity during MWC 2014 to announce a new quad-core chipset aimed at devices in the “super-mid market” as they describe it. The MT6732 will be a 64-bit processor that will compete with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 64-bit chipset.
The MT6732 will come equipped with four ARM Cortex-A53 cores, a 16-core Mali-T760 graphics chip, a multi-mode 4G LTE modem chip, and an imaging chip. Benchmark testing shows the new A53 cores are a substantial improvement over A7 cores they succeed while cutting down on power consumption. The Mali T760 gpu is 400% more energy efficient than the old T604 chip.
The new chip supports 1080p video playback and recording, support for picture-in-picture, video-in-video, and something called “Video Face Beautifier.” Like other MediaTek chips, the MT6732 comes equipped with the company’s ClearMotion and MiraVision algorithms.
The chips are not projected to be available before the end of the year. The capabilities of the new chip does help us identify where the mid-tier market is headed. MediaTek’s full press release is below, after the company’s video announcing the new Everyday Genius motto. Be sure to check back for more MWC 2014 coverage from TalkAndroid.
