Fitness trackers have become a big trend of late, with many companies jumping on the wearable tech bandwagon with fitness tracking devices. It seems like they all do more or less the same thing – track your steps, you calorie burn, your sleep, and so on. There’s one new fitness tracker that’s been designed by a formal Apple engineer. The Moov aims to go beyond simple fitness tracking, and instead be your personal trainer.
The device itself can be worn on your wrist, strapped to your body, or simply attached to something else. Not only that, but it’s also waterproof up to one meter, so you can wear it while swimming (although not scuba diving!).
The goal behind the device is to not only measure your workouts (steps, duration, heart rate, etc.) but to also give qualitative data in order to help you become more efficient while working out and avoid injury. The hub of all your data will be the Moov app on your smartphone, which can handle up to 5 Moov devices at once (although 2 is suggested).
Moov can last up to a week on a single charge with low-medium tracking, or 8 hours of high frequency movement tracking. Alternatively, the team have given the Moov a rating of 2 weeks if you work out one hour per day, 4 days a week. The device is set to be released during the summer and will cost $120. Alternatively, you can preorder one for $59.95, or two for $99.95. While currently iOS is the only mobile operating system supported, an Android app is set for a fall release.
