Samsung has confirmed that they are working on 64-bit processors, with a goal of releasing them this year. Samsung will build these processors under their Exynos name, which appears in many of Samsung’s devices. Samsung has been lagging behind many it its rivals when it comes to 64-bit processing.
64-bit processors are able to handle much more data than 32-bit processors that are found in many mobile devices today.
A number of chip companies have already started creating 64-bit processors in anticipation for their need in the market. Apple was in fact the first company to make them, and included a 64-bit processor in their iPhone 5S. After that, Qualcomm revealed the Snapdragon 410, 610 and 615, which also use 64-bit architecture.
Samsung says that they will have 64-bit processors ready by the time Android supports the technology. Not only will Samsung make the processors for their own devices, but they also aim to become the top processing manufacturer, creating chips for other companies as well.
