Samsung announced today the release of a new “radio” service for their devices. Powered by Slacker, the new Milk Music service offers free and ad-free radio service for consumers spanning 200 “stations.” Gregory Lee, president and CEO of Samsung Telecommunications America and Samsung Electronics North America Headquarters says the new service “introduces a fresh approach to music” and is part of a “focus on creating best-in-class consumer experiences.” The Milk Music app is available in Google Play for owners of the Galaxy S 4, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note II. When the Samsung Galaxy S 5 is released in April, the Milk Music app will be available on that device as well.
The interface for the app uses a dial interface, which can be customized, to select a station and start listening. New “stations” can be created based on artist or song selections, although the app does not provide a search function for individual songs. Stations can be fine-tuned to adjust the frequency of tracks based on popularity, new tracks, and favorite tracks. Milk Music will let users skip six songs per hour on each station.
