For several months, we have heard that Samsung will offer a premium version of the Galaxy S 5. Rumors have flipflopped between it being called a “Prime” version to being part of the “F Series,” but the fact that it was in the pipeline was always consistent.
Now the report is that Samsung’s mobile chief, J.K. Shin, denies the existence of a premium Galaxy S 5……
(Translated) “In addition to the Galaxy S5 bring additional premium model was rea article, is wrong,” and “Galaxy S5 and such, no such thing”
However, the Vice Chairman & CEO, Dr. Oh-Hyun Kwon, admitted they are working on a premium lineup, which will include phones…
“We will maintain our dominance in key businesses, such as mobile phones, TVs and memory chips, by rolling out premium lineups.”
This premium lineup has already started with tablets as in the TabPRO and NotePRO editions. However, little is really known about a premium phone. Everyone just assumed it would be based on the Galaxy S 5. The fact that JK Shin denies a premium Galaxy S 5 and Dr. Oh-Hyun Kwon confirms there will be premium phones, seems to indicate that a new premium phone will fall into the “F Series.” It could still be a phone based on a Galaxy S 5, but since it won’t be called a Galaxy S 5, JK Shin’s comment would still hold. On the other hand, Samsung could reserve this “F Series” for phones with curved displays.
Unfortunately, we can only speculate, but one thing you can bet on is that Samsung will unveil a premium smartphone sometime this year. When exactly? Rumors indicate around June, but it will definitely be before Apple unveils the new iPhone(s).
