Samsung has sent out invitations for an event that will announce the next generation Zoom. However, contrary to the belief that the device will be known as the Galaxy S 5 Zoom, the device will become the Galaxy K. It’s interesting that Samsung went with that name considering they’ve already released a Galaxy K in South Korea. Albeit that was almost four years ago. According to rumors though, the Galaxy K will be a brand in of itself and will not resemble the Galaxy S 5 in anyway.
As a further break away from the S 5, the device won’t even share any of the hardware aspects the S 5 has. Rather, the Galaxy K will be considered of a more mid-tier device. It’s rumored to have a 4.8-inch SAMOLED with a 720p resolution and a hexa-core Exynos 5260 SoC (two Cortex A15 cores clocked at 1.5GHz with four Cortex A7 cores clocked at 1.3GHz). It is said to have a Mali-T624 GPU, 2GB of RAM and a 20MP camera with a 10x optical zoom. It may also come with a Xenon flash — that won’t stick out as much as it did on the S4 Zoom — and a 2MP camera. It’s also said to have Android 4.4.2 onboard.
No word on pricing or availability, but our guess is that we’ll know more at the end of the month. The event will happen on Tuesday, April 29 at the Red Dot Design Museum in Singapore.
