We’ve seen some pretty wild ideas come out of Google X Labs in the past few years — Google Glass for one, Google Contact Lenses, driverless cars and Project Loon are just a few.

But now it seems that the man responsible for all that, Babak Parviz, (now-former) Google X director, will be leaving the company to work on new projects with Amazon.

He made the announcement on his Google+ page with very little information.

The news comes at an interesting time, since just last week he had been quoted saying that Glass has a long way to go, and that it could be a decade or longer before wearable technology becomes the norm.

“My guess is, 15 years from now, walking down the street, there will be people walking around with something on their head,” he said last week at the Wearable Technologies Conference.

It would be logical that the offer to jump ship and join Amazon was on the table last week, so his comments definitely could have been seen as a hint, or possibly just him showing his frustration with the project’s growing pains. Whatever it is, Parviz is leaving, and we wish him the best.

We’ll certainly be keeping an eye or two on Parviz at Amazon, as the visionary will certainly be looking to bring more innovative products to market in the future.
