HTC has announced the release of their latest device in the Butterfly line of devices. Going by the long name HTC J butterfly HTL23 in Japan through KDDI, the device is really the HTC Butterfly 2. That easier name is how it will be marketed through Chunghwa Telecom in Taiwan, CSL in Hong Kong, and other carriers in South Asian markets. Regardless of what it is called, it is probably a device that many people outside those markets wish HTC would make available on a wider scale as it combines some of the best features of the HTC One (M8) and the HTC One (E8) with a sprinkling of upgrades.

The Butterfly 2 is built with a plastic body like the One (E8) and gets the 13MP camera of the One (E8). However, it also gets the Duo Camera technology of the One (M8) along with most of the upgraded hardware of the One (M8) like the Snapdragon 801 processor, 2 GB of RAM, and a full HD 5-inch display. HTC also upgraded the Butterfly 2 to be water resistant with an IP 57 rating. HTC also says they improved their BoomSound technology to deliver 25% greater volume from the front-facing speakers. HTC is also bundling som JBL in-ear-headphones with the version destined for Japan to go with some new “LiveStage” signal processing technology that has been added.

Pricing has not been released, but the device will be available in red, white and blue starting September 2nd. You can read the press release below.
