We had a laptop that was junked out by HP through Best Buy. Best Buy gave us
a new replacement, but we were not able to get one with XP. It came with
Vista Home Premium.

I am not able to log onto our 2003 Terminal Server using the Vista version
of Remote Desktop. I get this warning -

Remote Desktop cannot verify the identity of the computer you are trying to
connect to. This problem can occur if -

1) The remote computer is running a version of Windows that is earlier than
Vista.

2) The remote computer is configured to support only the RDP security layer.

Do you want to connect anyway? YES/NO

If I choose Yes, TS will not log me on. I get a grayed out logon screen
dialog box. After a few seconds TS says it cannot log me on and to verify
the logon info. The fields are now not grayed out so I renter, but not able
to log on.

Vista Remote Desktop prompts for a user name and password prior to connecting.

Will the XP version on Remote Desktop run on Vista? What are my options?

Thanks much.

hi,
on remote descktop connection on vista clint push the option button and go
to advanced tab and choose the always connect, even if authentication fails
on authentication options.

dont forget to put "domain_name\" or "ts_name\" in the front of user name
depending of what is the default logon on the TS server settings.

RE: 2003 Terminal Server and Vista Remote Desktop

Found out that you must have Vista Business or Ultimate Editions to connect
to 2003 terminal servers. We had Home Premium.

Thanks.

Re: 2003 Terminal Server and Vista Remote Desktop

I get the same error message from a Vista Home Premium computer trying
to connect to a SBS 2003 machine via RDP. But in this case, the
connection *is* eventually successful when you click 'Yes' to the error
prompt. Would love to not have to go through the process every time though.
