Verizon has today announced that it will be offering HTC’s most recent budget-friendly smartphone, the Desire 612, on its recently-launched XLTE spectrum starting this Thursday, October 9. Customers will be able to grab the handset for free on any new two-year contract.
With regards to the Desire 612′s internals, it shares many of its specifications with its older cousin, the Desire 610. Under the hood you’ll find a 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels, a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2,040mAh removable battery.
The handset ships running the latest build of Android 4.4.4 KitKat skinned with version 6.0 of HTC’s Sense custom UI together with the exact same BlinkFeed news interface that can be found on all the Taiwanese company’s most recent smartphones. The 612 also features dual BoomSound speakers for crisper, clearer and deeper audio.

The definition of an entry level smartphone has changed over the last few years. What once meant compromising quality is no longer the case with the new HTC Desire 612. An affordable smartphone with features you’d expect on a premium device – offered exclusively at Verizon.
HD displays and great audio are not only available on higher end smartphones, the HTC Desire 612 has a 4.7-inch HD display and HTC BoomSound™ with dual-front facing stereo speakers. Facing the speakers the same way as the screen means the audio is directed at you while you watch videos on YouTube or video chat with a friend.
The HTC Desire 612 also makes it easy to catch up on social media and news is also easily done with the Desire. HTC BlinkFeed™ displays a personalized news feed to one screen so you can view Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, news stories, sports, and more without having to open multiple apps or keep switching back and forth.
While catching up on social media can be fun, contributing and sharing can be just as fun with the HTC Desire 612. The smartphone has an 8-megapixel rear camera with a plethora of filters and settings to get the right shot. The same filters extend to the 1.3-megapixel front facing camera for some fun selfies to take solo or with a friend. And with 4G LTE connectivity, that picture is uploaded quickly for all to see and like. Your smartphone goes everywhere with you so that means you’re always ready to snap a picture or selfie and upload it.
The HTC Desire 612 is XLTE-ready, so users can expect faster peak speeds and greater network capacity in cities coast to coast where XLTE has been rolled out. And front facing-speakers really come in handy with the NFL Mobile app. Customers on The MORE Everything Plan get NFL Mobile for the entire 2014/2015 NFL season, including access to live streaming games and NFL Network 24/7, on their smartphone at no additional cost.
