Xiaomi has been aggressively selling phones since the company was founded just three years ago, and according to the latest shipment metrics, they’ve finally got something to show for it. The company moved about 19 million smartphones in the third quarter of 2014, which officially makes them the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. That puts it above other large companies like Lenovo and LG.

Xiaomi only sold 18 million smartphones in all of 2013, and they’ve been steadily improving every quarter this year. The first quarter saw about 11 million phones shipped, and then about 15 million in the second quarter. An interesting statistic is that about 14.6 million of their Q2 devices were shipped to China, which shows that the company has an extremely strong following in their home country despite offering devices in other countries like India. The numbers aren’t out on what percentage of their 19 million were sold to China, but if the numbers keep trending the way they are, it makes sense that it’s mostly Chinese consumers purchasing Xiaomi phones.

Being number 3 is a pretty big deal in the extremely competitive smartphone market, but Xiaomi has plenty of room to expand their market share, especially if they can catch on in other countries besides China.
