Just a few days ago we learned that HTC is already planning a successor to its barely-launched RE Camera, HTC’s lay consumer answer to GoPro. HTC is confident that the RE could sell enough units in Taiwan alone to merit a second-generation device.
Now, per @upleaks, we have learned that the RE Camera 2, codenamed GC2, will likely launch separately from HTC’s next flagship, the mysterious Hima, which may or may not be the codename for the upcoming M9 and boasts some pretty insane specs.
There are many possible reasons for not launching the devices together, not least of which could be that announcing the RE Camera 2 in a presumed Q1 announcement of the Hima might cannibalize sales of the first-generation model.
This is still very much speculation at this point, so don’t expect an upgrade to your RE Camera as a Valentine’s Day gift next year.
