hi!
I am a newbee. We have a terminal server with 20GB in C drive 100GBin D
driver.
the problem is that because of too many files our C: drives always get Full.

Is there some way i can map the documents & settings folder to D drive?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Regards
Avir

Dear Jeff

many thanks for your reply.
Is there any safer way to solve this problem?

Re: limited disc space on C drive

If it's because of your user's storing a lot of data, you can always change
where they store the data. For example: back before there was even a
Documents and Settings folder, we set up folders called Data on each user's
pc. Later, when MS came out with Doc and Settings, instead of training
users to now store data there, we simple changed the properties of the My
Documents shortcut on their desktop to point to Data instead.

Re: limited disc space on C drive

You can use group policy or a reghack to redirect folders like My
documents and desktop to a network share. That typically eliminates the
largest part of the profile.

Do you use Active Directory? If so, use group policy to configure folder
redirection (for My Documents, Application Data, and Desktop) elsewhere.
Ideally, to another file server on the network, as I don't like to use a TS
box as anything but a big fat shared workstation (and don't store data on
it).

If you don't use active directory, you can at least manually point each
user's My Documents folder at d:\data\username

Other alternatives:

o Are these two drives or two partitions - if two partitions then just
re-size the C: drive
o Delete redundant accounts - I can recommend Tree Size Pro as a great way
to look at last modified
o Delete users who haven't modified in last month - assuming you are using
roaming profiles
o Identify heavy users - once again using Tree Size Pro
o Upgrade the hard disk - they are cheap!

Cheers, Rob.

Re: limited disc space on C drive

Have you considered moving the swap file to the other drive?

A "good" idea anyway whether or not you're short of disk space.

Re: limited disc space on C drive

That depends on your physical drive setup. If it's just logical
partitions it doesn't really do anything.

It wouldn't be "the other drive" then technically, pedantically speaking :-)
