Getting things started in what will unquestionably be a busy week for many is Acer. This morning, the company announced two new computers powered by Google’s Chrome OS. The Acer Chromebase 24 is entirely new, offering an all-in-one setup with a crisp display and Intel processor, while the Chromebook 11 is merely a refreshed Chromebook with better materials on the outside and tweaked components on the inside.
Acer is aiming to maintain its spot as one of the top makers of Chrome OS devices in 2015 by releasing new hardware early on in 2016. By making the Chromebase 24 and Chromebook 11 available in markets aside from North America alone, Acer should be able to see similar success this year.
The world’s very first Chromebase with an Intel Core processor is Acer’s new Chromebase 24, pairing Intel’s high-end processors with up to 8GB of RAM. The Chromebase 24 is being positioned as a secure, simple powerhouse for your home or office. In addition to having an adjustable high definition webcam, Acer embedded four digital microphones to enable optimal video conferencing. Chrome OS, already a very secure platform, is being met by the Chromebase 24 with a Trusted Platform Module 1.2 chip. This chip, according to Acer, “securely generates and stores cryptographic keys.” The operating system will check the system’s security every time you start the Chromebase 24.
This all-in-one desktop has an IPS display that spans 23.8 inches with Full HD (1920×1080) resolution and tilts up to 30 degrees. Need to hang it up somewhere? Acer has included VESA mount support and 10-finger multi-touch to place the Chromebase 24 in special locations.
Unfortunately, Acer isn’t ready to provide “exact specifications, prices, and availability.” That information is being left out intentionally because different regions of the world will see varying specifications and prices. Just check out your country’s Acer site to see what the Chromebook 24 for you would offer.
Acer is refreshing the Chromebook 11 to be more stylish and powerful, despite remaining as portable as ever. Weighing just 2.42 pounds and measuring 0.73 inches thin, this Chromebook is still able to be pressed and tossed without breaking. The Chromebook 11’s cover is made with a nano-imprinted pattern and the entire reinforced case is ready to handle all the stress sent its way.
The 11.6-inch display, which has 1366×768 resolution, has Acer’s ComfyView technology to avoid glare and decrease the severity of eye fatigue.
Ensuring you’re connected to other devices are USB and HDMI ports as well as Bluetooth 4.0 support.
Jerry Kao, Acer’s President of Notebook Business Group, said the following about how the company approaches the market:
“Acer’s position in the Chromebook market is unparalleled because we offer the range of Chromebooks that our customers want – including larger 15-inch displays and convertible models. We know what our customers want most in a Chromebook are the attributes that complement the mobile lifestyle – great performance and a portable design at an execellent value – all this can be found in the Chromebook 11.”
The Chromebook 11 will be available in North America next month starting at $179. A release in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa will also begin in February with prices starting at €329. Models will come with difference combinations of 16GB or 32GB of internal storage and 2GB or 4GB of RAM.
