Dubai isn’t somewhere you’d associate with budget-friendly smartphones, but it appears Samsung believes there’s a large demand for affordable handsets in the region as its just launched a refreshed model of the Galaxy J1 in a variety of different retail stores spread across the country. The device carries a price tag of AED 499, which is around $135.
The J1 is intended to be a phone that won’t break the bank, so don’t expect any amazing internals. It packs a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED display, a 1.3GHz quad-core Exynos 3475 processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a 5MP rear-facing camera, a 2MP front-facing snapper and a 1,850mAh battery.
The handset runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop straight out of its box skinned with the latest build of Samsung’s TouchWiz custom user interface, which, we have to say, has improved considerably over the course of the past year. The ugly overlay have been removed and replaced with a clean, Material Design complying skin that looks great and performs well.
Dubai-residents looking to pick up the Galaxy J1 will have to head over to their local electronics store to see if it’s in stock seeing as a list of retailers hasn’t been published as of yet.
