One of the most frustrating things about owning an Android smartphone is waiting for it to be updated to the latest version, which, for the time being, is Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Some brands are better than others at updating their respective handsets, with some brands being particularly slow. Don’t worry Samsung, I’m not pointing any fingers. HTC, on the other hand, has begun pushing out the Marshmallow update to factory unlocked One M8 handsets in Asia and has now tweeted that the update will begin rolling out to M8 handsets in the UK in the next 48 hours.

Great news! We'll be rolling out the Marshmallow update for the HTC One M8 over the next 48 hours. One M9 to follow shortly.

The Marshmallow update weighs in at around 1.14GB, and may take around an hour to download and install on the HTC One M8. As you would expect, the Android 6.0 update will bring all the Marshmallow goodness to your device, with features such as Now on Tap, granular application permissions, native fingerprint functionality and of course, the battery-saving Doze function.

It might be worth checking to see if the Marshmallow update is waiting for your M8, and you can do this by going into Settings, scrolling down to About Device and then selecting Check for Updates. Don’t worry if the update isn’t available to download just yet, as it will be rolled out in stages.

HTC One M9 users have no need to fret, you have not been forgotten, HTC says that the update will begin rolling out to your devices ‘shortly‘. The HTC One M8s and Desire EYE were confirmed to receive the Marshmallow update at some point in the future while the HTC One Mini 2 will not receive an update to Marshmallow.

If your HTC One M8 has received the Marshmallow update in the UK, did the process go smoothly for you? Let us know if you’ve found any bugs with the new firmware.
