Smartphone devices and tablets have changed our lives, not only as an efficient way to communicate but also as an efficient way to learn! There’s no stopping you now if you want to learn a new language or even physics, because the opportunity is at your fingertips all the time. Maybe you’re feeling exhausted from trying to get your child to figure out 2 + 2, or maybe you simply want to expand your own knowledge on the subject. Whatever the case, we’ve compiled a list of the 10 best educational Android apps for both children and adults.
Duolingo
Learning a new language has never been easier, but let’s face it: with all of the products and software available, it can get expensive! But price is no longer an issue with Duolingo. No, with the Duolingo app, you can learn a number of new languages free of charge! Even though it’s free, don’t let that fool you, in no way is it “cheap” quality. Duolingo has you set a goal for how much you plan to study by using the app each day, and it helps you achieve that goal. Not only is this app easy to use, but its colorful design and engaging, brief lessons will keep you coming back for more.
Endless Alphabet
Maybe learning another language is the least of your worries right now, if only you could get your child to grasp onto the one they’re surrounded with daily. Well, look no further! Endless Alphabet, a genius educational app for kids, will revolutionize the way your child learns. This app has taken the alphabet and turned it into an exuberant game of silly letter creatures. Not only will kids become familiar with letters and their sounds, but they’ll also be introduced to new words, and the meaning of those words through funny short-stories. This is some screen time you’ll look forward to your kids having!
Khan Academy
If you’re not 100% confident in your academic skills (whether you are ages 5 or 85), Khan Academy will walk you through very simple steps to solving virtually any problem you may encounter. While Khan Academy’s largest category is mathematics, offering simply tutoring in everything from 1 + 1 to Trigonometry and Calculus, they also offer a wide variety of “tutoring” in other subjects like Physics, Computer Programming, U.S. and World History, and much more. If you’re a student of any kind, this is an app you won’t want to miss!
DragonBox Algebra 12+
DragonBox Algebra 12+ is an app designed for anyone around the age of 12 or older. This is a fantastic app that will increase familiarity with algebraic equations for those of us who’d rather run in the other direction, and with hundreds of puzzles and many different learning exercises broken down into simple terms, you won’t want to stop playing! The best part is that, while there is some training, it’s minimal in order to focus on letting the student explore and discover the task at hand, making them more comfortable to go out and do it on their own someday.
Super Why! from PBS Kids
What better way to educate children than through their favorite TV characters? In the Super Why! from PBS Kids app, kids will learn about rhyming and spelling by interacting with Super Why and all of his friends. This is a rare form of education that you won’t be able to pull the kids away from! Alpha Pig, Princess Presto, Wonder Red, and Super Why all play different unique roles in the app, making it the perfect game for kids ages 3 – 6.
Pocket Physics
The Pocket Physics app is the perfect app for anyone in need of information regarding physics. Anything you could possibly need to know is within this compact, convenient, sleek app! Electromagnetic waves? No problem! Thermodynamics? Pocket Physics has got your back. This is the perfect go-to guide for pedagogy homework and andragogy research, clearly spelling out processes, atoms, motion, magnetics, formulas, and so much more! Find definitions and answers quickly and efficiently with this handy little app.
Sky Map
Sky Map is an observatory right at your fingertips! With compass technology to let you know exactly what constellations and planets you’re seeing, this app has so much potential. With a recent update out of the blue to fix minor bugs, spelling, and placement issues, we are anxiously looking forward to what the developers have for Sky Map and it’s users in the hopefully not-so-distant future. It had a long hiatus as far as updates went, but just received a rather large update just the other day. And we’re hoping to see these updates continue, as Sky Map could use a serious UI redesign, but don’t let that stop you from using this virtual observatory!
Endless Numbers
If your child isn’t quite ready for Algebra yet, never fear! Endless Numbers is created by the same developers of Endless Alphabet, and it’s just as silly and educational! Kids have the opportunity to hop on the number ferris wheel and discover numbers as well as basic math equations. It’s colorful, it’s fun, and it’ll have little ones catching on to math very early in life. Children will grasp onto these concepts through crazy runaway numbers, engaging opportunities to wake the sleeping variables, and the fun design of the game.
Cat in the Hat
Cat in the Hat is a classic we all know and love, but did you know it’s available in a not-so-classic format? Yes, you read that right. Dr. Suess lovers young and old alike can now access Cat in the Hat, as well as a variety of other Dr. Suess classics, in the Play Store. These story apps are very different from your regular reading apps like Kindle or Nook. They’re interactive with three different reading options, and any time during the story, touch different parts of the page to hear the corresponding, descriptive words. Take time to read the inspiring stories yourself or be read to by the enthusiastic narrators. The original art and stories we all grew up with come to life in these digital Dr. Suess apps!
Pocket Code: Learn Programming
This little app, Pocket Code: Learn Programming is amazing for anyone wanting to take their first steps into programming. The developers are bent on equipping the world with the opportunity to not only learn, but to create!
