This past week Google surprised the Android world by releasing the developer preview of Android N. Already factory images have been made available for several Nexus devices as well as the Pixel C. With a Nexus 5X available for testing purposes, TalkAndroid’s Justin Herrick loaded up the latest version of Android for some testing and made a video showing some of the visible changes.

Headlining the visible updates for most users in this latest version is the addition of a split window mode so users can view two apps at one time. The feature goes beyond viewing though as users will be able to do things like quickly copy from one app to another using the split window view. Users can also use the multi-tasking button to quickly swap between two different apps with a double-tap.

The other big visual change comes with the notification panel. The quick access buttons panel has been updated so users can swipe to a second screen of buttons and they can also customize which buttons are present. When not fully opened, Google also added a smaller bar that persists with the top buttons for quick access.

Notifications themselves get a visual overhaul as well, now spanning the whole screen. Depending on developer decisions to add features, users will also find that they can perform some operations, like replying to a message, directly from the notification panel instead of having to open an overlay or the app itself.

As developers and users spend more time with the Android N developer preview, we are sure to see more discoveries made and we are still waiting for Google to reveal what under-the-hood improvements may be included. Until that information starts to surface, check out this early look at Android N in the video below.
