Although it hasn’t always been possible for Android devices to take screenshots, everyone knows the process to do so by now. All Android devices use their own combinations of pressing home, power, and volume buttons to capture what’s on a screen and share the screenshot. With the new Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge from Samsung, things are the same but two additional options exist. Both phones have two software-driven ways to take screenshots.

Option 1: Physical buttons
- Find the on-screen content you’d like to take a screenshot of.
- Place one finger on the home button below the display and place another on the power button on the right side of the phone.
- Press both buttons at the same time.
- Swipe down from the top of the display, select Share, and you can send the screenshot to a number of apps. There are also Edit and Delete options if you’d like to modify or dispose of the screenshot you just took.
It can’t get any easier than this in my opinion. Every other device goes about taking screenshots in the same (or a very similar) manner.
Option 2: Swipe over the screen
- First, you should check if a certain feature is activated. Head into the Advanced features section of Settings. Scroll down until you see Palm swipe to capture on the list.
- The on/off toggle at the top right of the screen needs to be blue to indicate the feature is ready for use. Samsung also includes a brief illustration beneath the on/off toggle to show and tell how it works.
- With the feature on, go to the on-screen content you want to take a screenshot of and swipe the edge of your hand over the display. The phone will take a screenshot of whatever was on the screen and give the same options listed in Option 1.
If you’re hands are a little dirty and you don’t want to get anything on your phone, this option is perfect.
Option 3: Full-page capture
Sometimes you need share a little bore more than a what a single screenshot can show. Luckily, the Galaxy S7 and S7 borrow a special feature from last year’s Galaxy Note 5. The new phones allow you to take full-page screenshots.
- Before using one of the methods above, head back into Advanced features and turn on Smart capture.
- Go to the place where you’d like to take a full-page screenshot.
- Perform a screenshot as usual. Now, once the screenshot is capture, a little menu will appear at the bottom of the display. Select Capture more and continue doing this until you have the amount of content you want to keep.
- Proceed to edit or share the full-page screenshot.

The only downside of full-page screenshots is that a single one, saved as a JPEG file, can be 6MB or more. Traditional screenshots, which are stored as PNG files are about a third of that. So proceed know your phone’s storage will fill up quicker by saving full-page screenshots.
Whichever way you take screenshots, you’ll be able to find them in the Gallery and My Files apps. From there, screenshots can be shared to almost any app on your phone.
